Dr. Eric Grahling is the medical director and founder of Comprehensive Pain Management of Central Connecticut, LLC. He is board certified in anesthesiology and interventional pain management. He has studied and trained at institutions among the most prestigious in the United States.
Dr. Grahling grew up in upstate New York and attended Harvard University as an undergraduate graduating with high honors in chemistry. He earned his MD degree at the University of California at Los Angeles and then pursued a medical internship at the Cabrini Medical Center in New York City. Subsequently, Dr. Grahling completed his anesthesiology residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and then his pain management fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, both of which are Harvard Medical School affiliated institutions in Boston. He also worked at the MGH as a Clinical Associate in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care.
Dr. Grahling evaluates and treats most chronic pain conditions. His particular interests clinically include advanced interventional techniques for disc disease and treatment for complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS, also known as RSD). He has had significant experience with discography, IDET, nucleoplasty, spinal cord stimulation and all spinal injection techniques.
Dr. Grahling joins the central Connecticut medical community with hopes of working closely with his fellow practioners to treat chronic pain syndromes. He believes that patient education is the best tool with which to fight pain. Dr. Grahling's philosophy is that chronic pain is a chronic condition for which there is no cure and thus requires a close relationship with a practitioner who will help facilitate a treatment plan consisting of minimally invasive interventions, physical therapy, behavior modification, and medications, if indicated. The goal is to improve one's ability to function and get the most out of life.
Dr. Grahling sits on the executive board of the Connecticut State Pain Society. He is passionately involved with the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, among other national pain societies, and spends a great deal of time on the state and national level fighting to protect the safety of patients undergoing procedures for pain.
Dr. Grahling is also a proud member of ISIS (International Spine Intervention Society), the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP), the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Connecticut State Pain Society, the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA). His Connecticut hospital affiliations include the Hospital of Central Connecticut, both the New Britain and Bradley (Southington) campuses.
